Shark Point
Shark Point (in Thai Hin Musang) consists of a series of coral reefs, one of which just breaks the surface. Shark Point, Anemone Reef and the wreck of the King Cruiser are all three located close to one another at about 1 hours 45 minutes sailing from Phuket.
Shark Point is named after the docile leopardsharks often seen resting on the sandy bottom at this divesite. There is here an enormous variety in corals and fish. With colourful soft corals, anemones, seasnakes, moray eels, octopus, hunting fish, schools of snapper and barracuda, seahorses, nudibranches and of course leopardsharks Shark Point is simply a very beautiful divesite.
To protect the vulnerable ecosystem and the great variety in marine life, Shark Point was officially proclaimed a protected nature reserve by the Thai government in 1992. All commercial fishing, collecting of underwater life and anything else damaging the coral reef are forbidden.
There can be a reasonably strong current here, the visibility varies day by day but will normally be around fifteen meters. The diving depth at Shark Point is normally 24 meters maximum, but it is very well possible to dive shallower and have a lovely dive.
